the trimmed hat

Ta da! The finished hat… of finished until the 4th of July anyway. *grin* It’s taken me a couple of days to do, mostly because it took that long to decided what I wanted to do. I tried all sorts of things but found in the end that the simple was the most elegant.

I’m happy. It goes very well with the red stripe, helps to calm it down nicely. I'll take some pics of it on me later. :>

Ooh, it's very pretty! Makes me want to go start my pink taffeta 18c hat! With big feathers, which, incidentally, I just ordered today. :)

Ordered feathers? *perks up ears* Where did you order them from, if you don't mind me asking. I will need to order some for B's pirate costume at some point, hence my curiosity.

I want my next hat to be pink too... as soon as I have a frock to wear it with that is. :>

I went with Jas. Townsend & Son for the feathers. I think this is also where elegant_musings got hers (if I remember right). I went with them because they also carry plain paper fans, which I needed two of because my Mom and I have going to try our hand at painting fans 18c-style. (Which is to say that I am going to ruin a $2.50 paper fan with stick people, while Mom will do a beautiful watercolor floral design probably highlighting it with her special gold paint Aunt Jenny sends from Japan.) ;)

The only sad thing is that they only come in black & white. Luckily, that's exactly what I was looking for, but if you're looking for colors, here is an ebay seller with a bunch of colors. . . Not sure how they'd look in person. . . But they are very tempting! Yay feathers!
