piping
I just made and have sewn into a seam my very first piping.

Much easier than I thought and I'm doing fine without a piping foot (which apparently doesn't exist for my machine).

I'm feeling very accomplished all of a sudden. :>

That gives me hope! I've never done it because I've not been able to find a foot for my machine. Maybe I'll try with my next one.

I used the zipper foot to make the piping and the regular one to sew it - not at all bad! An invisible zipper foot would work even better I'd think... my favorite machine doesn't have one though. :

I always do piping by hand. It's less frightening :)

Yeah - I can see the advantages! I think if I were to do velvet I might do it all by hand... that would be hard!

I found that if I use the zipper foot, I can get close enough to the "rope" to keep it where it's supposed to be. That's what I used for my last bit of piping I did....

What she said... ZIPPER FOOT!!! I bought my machine in the early 80's (age of the stretch knit) and it did not come with a zipper foot. I had to find one that sort of fit and then adjust it with the dremel tool (wear protective googles) until it actually fit.

Yeah I used my zipper foot to make the piping, the regular one to sew it in the seam. An invisible zipper foot would work even better I would think but my favorite machine doesn't have one and I didn't feel like switching...
