update on me
So yes, I am still alive. Just in lurker mode online.

There is lots going on around here as my family continues to have health issues, I continue to pick up the household slack, trying to eat better with Weight Watchers (I've lost 11lbs so far!), Mary Kay, helping plan a 60th wedding anniversary party for my grandparents and such. *sigh* Yeah, just a little crazy!

Almost all of my sewing time has been taken up with commission work, which is almost as boring to journal and read about as it is to do. Still it's paying for beads and CosCol so I can't complain... I'm just super grateful to have the work right now! Having never done this much commission work at one time I've have to learn (the hard way of course) how best to schedule things and what are reasonable deadlines. I'm working through my horrible tendency to procrastinate too and managing my wrist issues along the way. I'm feeling much more confident about it all and am looking forward to the next couple of projects I have lined up.

Not to say I haven't been working on my stuff. I decided not matter how tight a commission deadline I needed to work on my things too and not feel guilty about it. Otherwise I'll go mad! So I worked on the Peacock dress last week. One day and the ugliest toile ever later there wasn’t much progress made honestly but I did work on it!

After trying on the Erte Dress and seeing it fit so well I thought I could use that pattern as a base. So I made up a full toile, out of a hideous fabric in Mom's stash. That is when all the flaws and mistakes in the frock became obvious. It was a rush job, I think I started it a week or two before CosCol on year, most of the issues and dirty little secrets being covered by the tunic of the original dress. After messing with the toile for a little while I decided that I would ditch the Erte Dress skirt and go with Butterick 4092 instead.

That's as far as I've gotten. I haven't used the Butterick pattern, although it's been on my list forever, so I need to mock that up and see what it's like. Hopefully I can work on it a bit today... I have a commissioned top hat that needs some attention first though. :P

Looking forward to seeing the Butterick skirt made up. That one's in my pattern stash, too.

Yeah I'm hoping I love it so I can use the pattern to make a few for everyday too... :>

Good to hear from you! I was beginning to wonder if you were okay :)

I agree that you should get some time to work on your own stuff. Even with schoolwork and work work I get time to work on my own stuff--I don't let work consume my life--neither should you.

I'm sure those who have commissioned pieces from you are flexible with deadlines, especially if it keeps you sane :)

Yeah, it's one fo the things that sucks about working from home... the guilt of "I COULD be working on that" is hard to escape. I'm trying though. :>

Well it's a mock-up, so it has to be something of a butt right? :P

I seem to be useless at posting what I mean at the moment! I meant I hoped the FABRIC didn't give you a headache ;) And I'm with you, I think it's against the law to make a mockup that isn't a pain in the butt!

That is an amazing toile! Wow. Shame the fit isn't there, I love when things just fit. I'm sure it will be gorgeous when finished!

I know... I've had some crazy toiles over the years but this one wins the prize for most eye watering I think. Ha!
