box pleating and my crappy day
Not much to update. I started pleating the ruffle of the petticoat Sunday night. It was very discouraging actually. Now I know why I’ve never box-pleated anything - it’s going to take me like ten years to pleat that thing! *sigh* I didn’t get too far with it, about a foot. I’m thinking that I may not even bother. I really loke teh look of box-pleating but it’s a lot of work for an under petticoat that will never be seen. I’m thinking maybe I should just gather it, although I really don’t like the look of gathering. Of course I’m not sure this wretched fabric will actually gather. *grrrr*

Today was supposed to be the day I cut out the next round of sewing projects. On the list was the shift toile, gown toile, and possibly an everyday blazer toile. I got as far as scanning and enlarging the gown patterns and doing my preliminary shift construction reading before I stopped for the day.

I was hit with a whopping headache this morning. Again! It’s the 4th or 5th headache in 6 days. I don't understand why they have popped up all of a sudden and have been rather bad sinus related ones too. I usually don't get too many of those. I'm hoping they are just weather related and will pass soon.

Today’s malady was particularly bad though. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve had a headache this bad in 5 or 6 years. I took a full dose of Excedrin migraine, which did pretty much nothing. Not good at all. So I grabbed a cool gel eye-mask from the ‘fridge, drew the blinds and crawled into bed. I listened to ROTK (audio book) for a little while then just napped. I got up 3 hours later still with the headache. It was better, but it was still definitely there, with the aching face and light sensitivity and everything. *sigh* floorlamps - I can’t imagine having these bad headaches as often as you do… I really do feel your pain! Bless your little pea pick'n heart! *wobbly smile*

Since then I’ve had dinner, watched a frivolous movie and checked the old LJ. I still have the headache. It’s getting worse as I stare at this blue-eyed monster so I should probably sign off. I’m going to take some more meds and crawl into bed again. I’m really hoping the aching will be gone by morning. One day of this is enough. Okay, enough whining… I’m off to bed. Thanks for …umm listening I guess. :>

Thanks so much.

It's hard to take it easy when you are highly motivated to sew but I will try. Getting better soon sounds really good right now! :P

Aaugh, headaches. I feel your pain (actually, I did earlier today, since I had a touch of sinus headache. Go figure). Headaches are an abomination, and I hope you feel better soon. And as elizabethsdress said above, do take it easy.

Poor, poor Jenny. :( I do hope you feel better! I think it must be something about the weather--I've had a couple of headaches in the past 10 days myself (and you know I *never* get headaches!).

Just take it easy on the box-pleating. I hate pleating things myself (ha--which is exactly why this morning's project is cutting out the PB dress' skirt and pleated it!), but I'm sure it'll look lovely if you get through it (slowly... ;).

Take it easy--we can't have a sick Jenny for you-know-what!!! ;)

Merci. Sorry the headaches have hit you too. I really hope they are just weather related, I'm not really allowing myself the think about them being something more serious. That would not be fun. At all.

I will try and take it easy, I definitely don't want to feeling bad this weekend! I'm definitely taking it easy on the pleating... I'm just not worrying about it for now. It's set aside until I feel like dealing with it. There are too many fun things for the ensemble I can be messing with right now. And again I say – wretched, evil fabric!

So sorry to hear about the headache. Those can really knock you out.

You might try using a fork to help you out with the pleating, depending on how deep you want your pleats. A fork doesn't produce the crispest, most even pleats, but it has saved my sanity on more than one occasion. I also don't really like the look of gathering; for my petticoats, I purchased a pleating foot for my sewing machine--it gives me these adorable little pleats in less than half the time it takes to gather. (I can't get it to do pleats more than about a quarter of an inch deep, so it is only for the stuff that won't show or for time periods when people really were so insane as to make all those tiny little pleats.)

Thanks. :>

Oooh, a fork... I've never heard of that! Umm, I'm intrigued now. Right now I'm using a sewing gauge, good but slow. I'll have to try the fork thing. The pleating foot sounds like fun too. I'll have to check and see if my machine has one avaible. I have one of those pleating boards, (or I should say my Mom has one). It has come in handy before but this particular fabric is refusing to be friendly with it.

And again I say – wretched, *evil* fabric!
