getting crazy
I got the lining cut out before I went to bed last night - so all I have to do is sew the thing up this weekend.

I've decided I really, really want a spencer for the tea on the 14th. I'm insane to do it but I'm going to give it a try. So I spent some time last night looking through my files to get some inspiration. I'm going to use the S&S Spencer pattern, to make my life simpler (is that a word?), so that helped narrowed down my choices.

I love the simplicity of these similar spencers that Jane and Georgiana are wearing so I think I will go with something like that. I also like the way Lizzie's pumpkin spencer fastens, with the buttons and ribbon, so I will play around with that too.

Of course looking at all the spencers in my files makes me realize I really want about 5 spencers - so many fun styles and details to choose from! :>

When I made my spencer for the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, I had one evening to make it, and I am no longer as fast as I was. I used the bodice and sleeve patterns of the dress, and put a draw string through the hem, with a false button fastening, for speed. You may well have longer, but it is a period solution.

Sounds cool to me! I was just looking at some drawstring Spencers thinking... I like that!

Oooh! How neat! I also love that pumpkin spencer. I have had a spencer on the to-sew list for years and years, and I also have the S&S pattern, so I'll be interested to see what you do with it! You're going to be so darn cute!

I know the universally loved pumpkin spencer... :> It's been on my list for years too, this will be my first one can you believe it. Yes a full report on the S&S pattern... Thanks!

Yay, spencers! I know whatever you come up with will be lovely, and I can't wait to see it!

The pumpkin spencer that Lizzie wears above was the inspiration for the fabric choice & style of the one I have: I love the color/fabric, but the fit of mine is off, so I plan to fix it or make a new one to replace it at some point =)

Yeah I remember you saying that. Someday I want a pumpkin colored one too but for now I'm being a good girl and using the stash! :>

I tried making the S&S spencer a few years ago, and just to let you know, it's not real fitted. In fact, mine was so baggy I gave up on it after wearing it once. And I had it fitted to me when I started. I wanted one of those snugger fitting ones. I hope to give LaMode Bagatelle's spencer a run one of these days.
Looking forward to seeing how your's comes out.

Thanks for the heads up. Looking at the pics of it made-up on the S&S website I figured I'd have to make some changes... after the first fitting I know I will! :>

I have a feeling this is going to turn out very lovely!

And a side thought...I have *always* loved that bonnet Georgiana wears in that scene. I have something similar planned for the near future.

After the fitting last night I'm a little dubious but I'm going to give it a try anyway! *crosses fingers and hopes for the best*

I like that bonnet too! It will cool super cute on you!
