regency fun

Thanks to the week-long headache being friendly and having the house all to myself yesterday I *almost* finished my Regency day dress!

My dress form being out of commission I had to try it on a couple of times during the construction to double check the gathering placement of the bodice and skirt but in the end I'm very pleased.

Umm. It looks much better on me than on Narcissa. Oh and I made up the necklace from the vintage beads I got in SD too. It needs a red silk ribbon now. I'm digging the velvet red trim, which was Mom's idea. It's just enough pop and adds some texture. The fabric on the board behind the dress is what I'm using for my bonnet so that helps draw the colors together. Even though it doesn't match. I love not matching things perfectly.

So trim, sleeve hem and skirt hem and it's done. Yippee! Well I'm debating adding a strip of twill tape to the "waist" for stability, since I skipped the lining. We'll see.

This looks so adorable! And with the cute!

This is from the S&S pattern, right? Somehow I've never gotten the sleeves in that pattern to work, but you're encouraging me to try again.

Yes and no. I re-worked the pattern quite a bit and the sleeves are based on my standard 18th century sleeve. I had a horrible time with the sleeve from the pattern as well. I thought it was just my fat arms! :>

Whoops, you must have been replying just as I was commenting again.

It's not just you. There is something about the curve of the sleeve cap that doesn't fit in the armscythe at all.

Looking back at previous entries on this project, I see that you also had trouble with the S&S sleeves. There must be something up with the pattern, I think.

Must be if we both had problems (we are very differnt builds so it can't be that!).

Yay for getting things done. The necklace looks sweet.
Is the gown yellow? Hard to tell in the photos.

Thanks! It's a yellowish green or a greenish yellow. Not really sure. It is a truly funky color, one that has to be seen in person. It happens to compliment my complexion and make my hair look red though so I like it. :P

It's beautiful and I like the lemony yellow. :)

It's going to look so awesome! Especially with the bonnet. :o)

ETA: And I fail at LJ since I meant to make this its own comment, not a reply. *waves to scottishlass* Sorry for cluttering the inbox!

Very pretty! Both the necklace and the gown. That little bit of red trim really adds to it.
