Northern Virginia events
Since this seems to be the event posting day... For all my Northern Virgina costume peeps:

Sep 15-16 - Mount Vernon 18th-Century Craft Fair - The twelfth annual 18th-Century Craft Fair. Not as big as Fort Frederick but some of the same vendors I understand. Potomac River sightseeing cruises are free-of-charge at Mount Vernon's Wharf. Included in regular admission. I'll probally be there on Sunday (still firming up plans) if anyone wants to meet up.

Nov 3 - Richmond Ball - no website but I can get further details if needed from my dance mistress. English Country Dancing so 18th and early 19th cenutry dress suggested. Hosted by the Richmond dancers, and they are serious about the dancing part! :>

Nov 17 - Fall Ball at Gadsby's Tavern in Alexandria - a 1770s themed ball. $45, reservations required. More info here.

There is also a Jamestown Ball, to celebrate the 400th, on Oct 20th somewhere in the Jamestown area that I just heard about - I can get more details if desired.

Tickets for the Pirate Feast in Adelphi MD go on sale in Sept (although the feast itself is in Jan usually). Do you want me to buy any for you?

The Tues nite sewing group often does a group trip to the MD Ren fest, I can give you a heads up on that when it happens too if you like.

If you haven't been yet Mt Vernon Mkt Faire is MUCH smaller than Ft Fred and usually has a much larger proportion of people who are not in costume. That said it's still a lot of fun and the Silly Sisters are almost always there.

Good to know! I wasen't planning on dressing. I'm taking two newbies from RCHS to show them wht they need for their kits. I think mom may come as well, so more of a day out. Yep the Silly Sisters will be there as far as I know.

Yes please, give me a heads up on the Ren Faire. I'm not sure about the Pirate Feast - I need to double check the date with a friend as I may have something else that day. Is it the sort of thing where if I can't make it I can sell the ticket to someone else easily?

Attaching skirt to bodice

Off topic.

I have a question about this project. http://www.jennylafleur.com/diary/polignac.htm

It's about the skirt and its attachment to the bodice. After pleating the skirt. Is it sandwiched between the bodice fashion fabric and bodice lining then hand stab stitched?

Re: Attaching skirt to bodice

Nope, the bottom of the bodice is finished then the skirt is pleated and attached by hand. Not sure if it's technically a stab-stitch - I just sort of tack it on. :>
