shoes to inspire
While surfing the net I came across this link to the Beta Shoe Museum in Toronto:

Be sure to check out the 1780s pink & black shoes at the bottom - yummy! *wink*

Umm... I'll take the white and yellow, the velvet, and the pink and black. Ha! I wish. Thanks for the link. Those are gorgeous!

I love them all, and such nice high res images! Thanks so much for posting this, I've got quite a few 18th c shoe experiments have been going on in my house and these are a major source of inspiration and information!

I'm glad it was helpful! I'm only sorry it's not closer so we can't do a field-trip. Well that and the fact that they aren't for sale and in my size. :>

I was spurred on by your pics to actually finish one shoe in a pair of my many 18th C shoe experiments. Aqua silk taffeta with metallic silver braid trim looks so much nicer than the scuffed and drab linen it was before...I'll post pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the beautiful pics! I must request a catalogue for this exhibition. Such great inspiration for my exam work... I really like the pink and black one.

I´ve just found out that it was fashionable in early 1800´s for ladies to make their own shoes in place of needlework.

Thanks for sharing! Between this link to fabulous 18th c. shoes and bauhausfrau's pix of her shoe re-covering, I am *so* wanting to make some! In my copious spare time, of course....

Wow, I actually LIVE in Toronto and I haven't been to that place for ages. I guess it's one of those things about living in a city with lots of attractions - they'll always be there, so you don't bother!

Oh lucky you! If you do go and you see an exhibition catalogue please let us know the title!
