overall a dye success

I don’t know about you guys but I like it! I was going for a little bit more green in the blue but this is such a pretty color I think I will leave it. It’s the right color family (it's actually a bit richer looking in person) and it goes with the necklace. Maybe I could find some ribbon matching the necklace for my trim…

The color could have come out a little more even in places (another reason to miss my old washer) but I don't think anyone will notice with the full petticoat skirt and the fact I can cut around them for the jacket. If you look at the edges you can see the warp and weft took the color differently. It's why it's so pretty in person - this fabric almost shimmers. I love it! So a new ruffled jacket and petticoat here I come!

I used 1 cup salt, 1 bottle evening blue and about a tbsp dark green. I did it in the tub sink in the laundry room with the hottest water from the tap, soaking and stirring for about 25 minutes before rinsing (with a vinegar rinse) in the washer.

And a pic of the bronze taffeta, since I haven’t shown you that yet…

Re: That

Isn't it? I'm so happy! :>

By the way I got a video from the library on Bletchley Park that was very good. I'm not taking it back so you can watch it when you get home this weekend...

Whoa - that is gorgeous!! I hadn't seen the necklace, either, and it's simply breathtaking. Way to go!

Thanks! Yeah that was my Black Friday find last year. I shouldn't brag but it hard not to when you find a $45 necklace for $8.99! *grin* I haven't even worn it yet... been waiting for the right outfit.

Hecht's (department store) - seems to me it was a Monet... oh I don't remember now!

Thanks! I'm excited as it's very different from the rest of my 18th century things.

That necklace is amazing and for that price, wow!

I think the faille turned out wonderfully. I have such bad luck with dying I'm always so impressed to see such great results.

And the bronze taffeta looks very firey to me.

Thanks! I love that necklace - I originally bought it for Edwardian things but then I was looking at 18th century/Regency jewelry online and thought "wow this is actually really close". I'm so ready to break out of the accepted reenactor plain-ribbon-round-the-neck thing! :>

Well the dyeing job isn’t perfect but it works. At least the color came out pretty and close to what I wanted! You definitely have to have an open mind when it comes to dyeing. At least I've never had luck matching anything...

I bought that taffeta right in the middle of my Fire research and pondering... I think it shows! :>

The blue colour looks great! You know, I haven't tried dyeing fabric yet ... just haven't got up the nerve! I am totally coveting the bronze taffeta!!!!

Oh dyeing isn't that bad. Unless you are a wise at color theroy or chemistry you have to keep an open mind about the results though. At least I do!

Looking good. I would never go to that much trouble to get the color I want, so I applaud you.
Ooh ooh, I think I have that same bronze fabric, and in cream, and in gold, and in brown... I ran into a great salesman in the Garment District. :(

Thanks! Well needs must. I can't afford new fabric so I must be creative with what I have in the stash. There are lots of things I wouldn't do if I could afford to just buy it but at least I've learned some fun skills along the way! :>

It's probably not the same, this is from Jo-Anns. Not a great fabric to be honest but pretty and affordable (with a coupon). It will do until I can save up for the silk satin I want anyway! :>

Mine is one of the pseudo-silk taffetas, aka poly. I chose some less expensive fabrics this time so my cash would go farther. I decided I wanted to make more gowns for less money. I machined-washed mine, and it's not quite as crisp anymore but still has good body, and the colors are gorgeous. Mine has that same gold finish on the selvage as yours does. Could be twins.

Lovely colours! I´m looking forward to see the jacket and petticoat!
The bronze taffeta looks like the fabric I used in the dress I wear in my user-pic. :-)
