An update on me...

- Breaking news is that we've had to change the day we are going to the Maryland Ren Faire from Saturday Oct 16th to Sunday Oct 17th. I know that means I will miss meeting up with some of you guys which really bums me out but it couldn't be helped. *disappointed sigh*

- So no real sewing going on at Chez-Jenny-Rose. I don't seem to have any motivation to work on the Pink Venetian these days. Right now my main I-don't-want-to-deal-with-you issues are the trim saga and knife pleats vs cartridge pleating. I just don't have enough fabric to make the pretty cartridge pleats (especially in front) I'd envisioned. Doing knife pleats won't be the end of the world, although I don't think they are as period correct. It's hard to tell in the portraits though. It's really more that the frock is turning out to not be much like the vision I had in my head and that is disappointing. As far as the trim goes, I think I'm going to have to give up on finding more, at least for this outing.

- I'm continuing to re-discover the joys of cooking & baking. I've had a series of flops lately (the carrot-sweet potato soup being the bottom of the barrel!) but redeemed myself with a vengeance yesterday with an apple pie with a crumb topping. I haven't made an apple pie in years, mostly because I'm the one that ends up eating it. Not good for the waist line. This one was supposed to be for a church event but our plans changed at the last minute so I didn't go. I'd already started on the pie though so I decided to make it anyway. I'm not minding eating the whole thing by myself at all!

- This is Dad's and my birthday weekend (our birthdays are a few days apart) so I'm going to make him some birthday Scottish Shortbread today as part of his gift. Tonight we are having a our birthday dinner at Poppy Hill, our favorite restaurant downtown. I'm not sure what the plans are this weekend but it looks like it's going to be cool and crisp and not raining (yay - it's been tepid and humid and raining for days). I'm hoping we can spend some time playing games and having family time. It won't be the same without Bridget but still it would be fun.

Hello :) It's nice to hear from you! I think there must be something in the air, I don't feel very much like sewing either! But I do feel like baking, and your apple pie makes me feel like being even more domestic goddess like! I made a yummy apple crisp on Wednesday when we had relatives coming for the night. I use a Pioneer woman recipe, you should try it some time : http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/10/pear-crisp-with-vanilla-ice-cream/
Enjoy your Birthday weekend!

Happy early birthday! I'm sorry the sewing is being a pain. I hate that feeling when the picture in your head doesn't come out like you plan.
