Well I've decided that as cute as I could make it and as much as I'll probably like it better once it's made up in real fabric - I simply don't want to wear an Elizabethan Jacket this weekend. So I'm not.

Part of me feels like a brat and pretty lame for not following through when I *could* get the jacket done in time but the other part is kinda proud that I'm actually following some of my costuming resolutions to neither costume in a rush, have to have "fabulous new" for every event, nor costume for what I *think* are other's expectations of my abilities.

So I'm going to wear a hobbled together "pirate wench" outfit - ie stays on the outside, petticoats and a little tricorn in the hair. I played around last night and found a combo that works nicely with my new effigy stays (which I'm dying to wear!). I feel I'm closer to "Pierette" or "Columbine" at the moment though so I'm going to run out to the party store today and see it I can "pirate" myself up a bit more. If not no big, the Pierette is kinda cute. :>

So the good news is I now have a perfectly fitted and ready to go Elizabethan Jacket pattern for my embroidered jacket project. I need to work on the embroidery design now - at the moment all I have is a rough desire for bees and Tudor roses... *rubs hands together*

Good for you! Now you can work on it when the mood strikes and have a garment you are really happy with.

Always good to have a Plan B, or even Plan C. Enjoy your weekend, whatever you wear.

Can always make it next year...

Not insisting on new costumes for every event is a good resolution. I used to make myself crazy with that kind of thing, always wanting to be "perfect", but I now aim for "perfect enough" and have much more fun.

Pierette sounds super cute, and will look fab with your new stays! Sometimes the best ideas come out of what seems like compromise.

I think your costume resolutions are great :) Just think how amazing your embroidered Elizabethan jacket will be!

Good for you!

And might I add that I think a lot of us get trapped into the belief that we need to only make historically accurate stuff, etc. But really? Sometimes you just want to wear something fun! Or something just because it is pretty or whatever. I hope you have a fantastic time at the renn faire!

Good for you! I know how hard it is to want something new, but just not be in the mood!
You're going to have so much fun as a wenchly pirate! and you won't worry about getting muddy or dirty so will be able to have even more fun! I demand pictures though :)

That sounds very cute, and you're wise not to rush it. Just have fun!

The jacket toile looks great, anyway. :) Can't wait to see what you have planned!

Well done on remembering your resolutions, and sticking with them. This year I found out how nice it was to just get something out of the cupboard & wear it. Sure it's nice to have something new, but it's just as nice to not have all the stress before an event.

Good for you! Rushing is never fun and I'm sure you will make the perfect pirate!

Good for you! That is something I'm having to learn for life in general, not just sewing. Some days are good with that, others are an epic failure!
